The Center for Scotch-Irish Studies is incorporated in Pennsylvania as a not-for-profit association and is recognized as a 501(c) 3 organization by the Internal Revenue Service.
The purposes of the Center include, but are not necessarily
limited to, the following:
1. Research: Encourage, support, and undertake research
in Scotch-Irish studies, including, but not limited to, the history,
the customs, the material and other culture, the legal and political
philosophy, and the language of the Scotch-Irish people.
2. Publications: Disseminate the results of such
research by the publication of books, papers, and serials, including
an annual Journal of Scotch-Irish Studies.
3. Symposia, conferences, etc.:
Sponsor classes, seminars, symposia, etc., for those members
of the public with a specialized interest in Scotch-Irish topics.
On occasion, co-sponsor events with similar goals initiated by
other groups.
4. Education: Prepare and circulate educational
material on Scotch-Irish themes for the instruction of young people,
and for members of the public with a general interest in ethnic
studies. Provide this material at little or no charge, where possible.
5. Genealogical Research: Encourage, support, and undertake research on genealogical methodology applicable in the context of Scotch-Irish studies. Support and conduct research on special topics in Scotch-Irish genealogy.
The Center published issues of the Journal of Scotch-Irish Studies in 2000 through 2006, We will continue to publish on an annual basis.
The Center sponsored Symposia on the Scotch-Irish Identity on June 2, 2001, on May 31, 2003, and on June 4, 2005 in the Philadelphia area. The next symposium will be held on June 30, 2007.
The Center for Scotch-Irish Studies works in close association with the Scotch-Irish Society of the USA and the Scotch-Irish Foundation.
